Back in 2022, fans of slasher series were excited to hear about the announcement of a “Friday the 13th” prequel TV series called “Crystal Lake.” But with no premiere date in sight, anticipation has been building as fans wonder when, or if, they will get to see the series.

In August of 2024, it was reported by Deadline that Brad Caleb Kane took over as the showrunner for the “Crystal Lake” series after Bryan Fuller’s departure in May 2024. Kane, known for his work on “Welcome to Derry,” is now in charge of writing, directing, and executive producing the show, promising an exciting new direction for the series.

Recently, Kane offered a brief update on the progress of the series, revealing that scripts are in the works. He mentioned, “Wish I could give a more substantial update, but mum’s the word. Suffice it to say the story’s been broken, scripts have been and are being written, and the goal is to give the fans (including myself) a tense, scary, bloody, and satisfying ride that’s well worth the wait. More news to come in the new year. Unless, y’know… we’re all doomed.”

With “Crystal Lake” finding its home on Peacock, fans are hopeful that the new year will bring more updates, a release date announcement, and perhaps even a trailer. Despite the uncertainty, Kane’s words give a sense of optimism that the series is still on track and will deliver a thrilling experience to viewers. So, fingers crossed for more news soon!
