Blade Runner 2099: Female-Led Prime Video Series Officially Wraps Production

Prime Video has just revealed that filming for Blade Runner 2099, featuring Hunter Schafer and Michelle Yeoh, has finally finished up after six months of production.

The series has been shooting in places like Prague and Belfast, and fans are eagerly anticipating its release, although no official premiere date has been set yet.

Starring Michelle Yeoh (from Everything Everywhere All At Once and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) and Hunter Schafer (known for Cuckoo and Euphoria) in the lead roles, the storyline is set in Los Angeles in the year 2099.

Cora, portrayed by Hunter Schafer, finds herself constantly on the run, adapting to various identities. In a bid to secure a better future for her brother, she takes on one last identity, teaming up with Olwen, played by Michelle Yeoh, a Blade Runner facing her own mortality. Together, they unravel a conspiracy that threatens the very existence of the city.

Jonathan van Tulleken, known for his work on Shōgun, will direct and produce the first two episodes, stepping in for Jeremy Podeswa due to scheduling issues. The show is being developed by Amazon Studios and Alcon Entertainment, with Ridley Scott, the original film’s director, serving as executive producer.

There has been much speculation about the potential return of familiar faces from the Blade Runner universe, like Harrison Ford or Ryan Gosling. Given the long time gap between Blade Runner 2049 and this new series, it’s uncertain if they will make an appearance. It’s more likely that Blade Runner 2099 will introduce a fresh cast of characters loosely connected to the previous movies.

Let us know in the comments what you hope to see in Blade Runner 2099.
