James Gunn Discusses Reason for Delay in “Batman 2”: Typical 5-Year Gap for Sequels

0

James Gunn, the co-chairman of DC Studios, recently shared insights on the delay of ‘Batman 2’, explaining that it’s actually quite common for blockbuster sequels to have a gap of five years or more between releases. The film, originally slated for 2026, will now hit theaters on October 1, 2027, giving fans a bit more time to wait.

Gunn pointed out that this delay was necessary primarily because the script wasn’t quite ready yet. As he mentioned on social media, the scriptwriting process can be unpredictable, and the team wants to ensure they deliver the best film possible. After the script is finalized, the movie will go through a two-year whirlwind of pre-production, shooting, and post-production.

While ‘Batman 2’ may be taking its time, Warner Bros. has plenty more in store for movie buffs. They’ve shifted around their schedule to make room for another project helmed by Alejandro González Iñárritu, starring the legendary Tom Cruise. Despite the shuffle, Warner Bros. has been riding high on the success of recent ‘Batman’ universe films like 2022’s ‘The Batman’, starring Robert Pattinson, which made a whopping $772 million worldwide. And let’s not forget the HBO Max series inspired by Colin Farrell’s character, The Penguin.

In other schedule changes, the studio has swapped release dates for ‘Sinners’ and ‘Mickey 17’, offering fans fresh dates to mark on their calendars. ‘Mickey 17’, starring Robert Pattinson, will now grace the screens on March 7, 2025, while ‘Sinners’, a collaboration between Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan, has been pushed back to April 18, 2025. So, while the wait for ‘Batman 2’ may be a tad longer, there’s certainly no shortage of exciting entertainment coming our way from Warner Bros.!
