Get ready for some magic! “Wicked” is coming to a streaming platform near you this New Year’s Eve. Universal Pictures just announced that the hit film will be available for purchase or rental on December 31st on platforms like Prime Video and Apple TV.

In addition to the movie itself, the streaming release will include some exciting bonus content. You can look forward to a sing-along version of the film, behind-the-scenes featurettes, and commentary from director Jon M. Chu, as well as stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande. Plus, there will be deleted and extended scenes that offer even more insight into the world of “Wicked.”

One of the highlights of the bonus content is a 40-minute behind-the-scenes featurette that celebrates the film’s on-screen magic. You’ll also get to see bonus clips showcasing the special effects that brought the large-scale sets to life.

Starring a talented ensemble cast including Erivo, Grande, Jeff Goldblum, Bowen Yang, Peter Dinklage, Marissa Bode, Jonathan Bailey from “Bridgerton,” and Oscar-winner Michelle Yeoh, the nearly three-hour-long film is part one of Chu’s two-part cinematic adaptation of the popular Broadway musical.

For those unfamiliar with the story, “Wicked” delves into the events that occurred in the magical land of Oz before Dorothy’s arrival. The musical, adapted from Gregory Maguire’s novel “Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch,” premiered on Broadway in 2003 and has been captivating audiences ever since.

Having premiered in theaters on November 22, the movie has already grossed over $580 million worldwide, making it a massive success. It even had the third highest-grossing opening weekend of 2024, following only “Deadpool & Wolverine” and “Inside Out 2.”

With four Golden Globe nominations under its belt, “Wicked” is a must-watch for fans of musicals and fantasy films alike. So, mark your calendars for December 31st and get ready to experience the magic of Oz like never before!
