Sesame Street in Search of New Home as Partnership with Max Ends
Sesame Street, the beloved show that has been entertaining and educating children for an impressive 55 seasons, is in need of a new home. The long-running partnership with HBO and its streaming service, Max, is coming to an end.
This change is a result of Max’s new focus, shifting away from children’s programming towards adult and family content. The current 55th season of Sesame Street, set to premiere in January 2025, will be the last to be available on Max.
A spokesperson for Max explained, “As we’ve launched Max though and based on consumer usage and feedback, we’ve had to prioritize our focus on stories for adults and families, and so new episodes from Sesame Street, at this time, are not as core to our strategy.”
While the future of the show is uncertain, its iconic status and rich history make it an attractive option for streaming giants such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, or Apple TV+.
Sesame Workshop, the production company behind Sesame Street, has announced plans for a creative shift in future seasons. They will move away from the traditional “magazine” format to more extended narrative-driven segments. Additionally, a new animated series, “Tales From 123,” will be added to the show alongside the live-action segments. These changes are intended to make Sesame Street more appealing to potential streaming partners.
Sesame Workshop remains committed to producing high-quality programming and is actively exploring new distribution opportunities. They are eager to share their plans in the months to come.
