NFL Christmas Day Games Draw Record 65M US Viewers on Netflix
Netflix shared some exciting news about their Christmas Day NFL games, revealing that a whopping 65 million viewers in the US tuned in to watch the Kansas City Chiefs vs. Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens vs. Houston Texans matchups. This set a new record for streaming on the platform, and it’s clear that football fans were eager to catch the action.
With an average of over 24 million people watching each game, the Chiefs-Steelers and Ravens-Texans matchups now hold the top two spots for the most-streamed NFL games in US history. That’s pretty impressive stuff!
Netflix faces competition from other streaming services like Amazon Prime’s Thursday Night Football and Peacock’s NFL broadcasts, but it seems like they’ve made a solid entry into the NFL streaming game. The Ravens vs. Texans game pulled in a 24.3 million average minute audience, while the Chiefs vs. Steelers wasn’t far behind at 24.1 million average minute audience.
While these numbers are certainly impressive, they were a bit lower than last year’s traditional network Christmas broadcasts in the same time slots. For example, the Las Vegas Raiders vs. Chiefs game on CBS brought in 29.5 million viewers, and the New York Giants vs. Philadelphia Eagles matchup on FOX had 29 million viewers.
Historically, Thanksgiving has been a big day for NFL games, while Christmas was more associated with the NBA. However, since 2020, the NFL has made a point to schedule games on Christmas each year. In 2022 and 2023, the NFL even hosted tripleheaders, but this year, they treated fans to a doubleheader on Netflix.
And the good news is, NFL games on Netflix aren’t going anywhere soon! The streaming giant has plans to broadcast at least one NFL game on Christmas in both the 2025 and 2026 seasons. So if you enjoyed watching football on Netflix this year, you’ll have more to look forward to in the future. Exciting times for football fans!
