Music Highlights of 2024: Bruce Springsteen returns to touring with new documentary
This past year was full of exciting highlights for Bruce Springsteen fans. After facing health issues in 2023 that caused him to postpone his tour, the Boss made a strong comeback in April 2024, hitting the road again with the E Street Band. Although he had to reschedule a few European shows due to vocal problems, it didn’t slow him down. In fact, he announced another tour in Europe for the following summer.
Aside from touring, Springsteen had a myriad of other exciting developments in 2024. A movie based on the making of his 1982 album, Nebraska, called “Deliver Us From Nowhere,” started production with Jeremy Allen White playing the Boss. He also made special appearances on stage with artists like Zach Bryan, featured in a comedy episode on HBO Max, and was honored as an Academy Fellow of The Ivors Academy in the U.K.
Celebrating the 40th anniversary of his famed album “Born in the U.S.A.” in June, Springsteen released a special anniversary edition on red vinyl. There were reports in July that he had reached billionaire status, although the Boss later denied these claims. He headlined the Sea. Hear. Now festival in Asbury Park, New Jersey, with a set full of classic tunes from his early days, and contributed to a tribute album for Jesse Malin.
To cap everything off, Springsteen gave fans an intimate look at his live show in the Hulu documentary “Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band.” The film premiered at the Toronto Film Festival and revealed personal struggles including his wife Patti Scialfa’s battle with multiple myeloma, a form of blood cancer, which hindered her from joining him on tour.
And let’s not forget, the legendary artist turned 75 in September. Springsteen’s bandmate Stevie Van Zandt also had an exceptional year, getting his own documentary “Stevie Van Zandt: Disciple” premiering at the Tribeca Film Festival and even earning a Grammy nomination for Best Music Film.
