Helen E. Essex, a beloved member of the Knoxville community, passed away peacefully on December 20, 2024, surrounded by her family at OSF St. Mary Medical Center. She was 90 years old.
Born on May 2, 1934, in Galesburg, Helen married Marvin D. “Sonny” Essex on May 1, 1955, and they shared many happy years together until his passing in 2013. Helen leaves behind two daughters, Lorraine Stone of Galesburg and Michele Peacock of Schaumburg, along with five grandchildren and a great-grandson. She was a cherished sister, sister-in-law, and aunt to many.
Helen attended ROVA schools in Altona before graduating from Valley High School in London Mills. Throughout her life, she worked in various positions, including data processing at Gates Rubber Co. and as a member of the Knoxville United Methodist Church.
Known for her love of reading, country music, family gatherings, and all things shiny and sparkly, Helen was adored by those who knew her. Her gentle spirit and kind heart will be dearly missed.
Funeral services for Helen will be held on Saturday, December 28, 2024, at Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes & Crematory in Knoxville, Illinois, with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. and the service at 11 a.m. Rev. Dave Mustain will officiate, and interment will follow at Knoxville Cemetery.
