Paramount+ recently filmed a contemporary romcom called “The Road Trip” in various locations in Bristol with the help of the Bristol Film Office. The 6-episode series, based on Beth O’Leary’s book and produced by 42 in association with PTIS, boasts a star-studded cast including Emma Appleton, Isabella Laughland, Laurie Davidson, David Jonsson, and Angus Imrie.

The filming took place at The Bottle Yard Studios and showcased various spots around Bristol, such as Totterdown, Armada House, Clifton, and Gran Canaria, Spain. The scenes were shot at iconic locations like the Gallimaufry Pub on Gloucester Road and the Harbourside Kitchen at SS Great Britain on Gas Ferry Road.

Written and created for television by Ryan O’Sullivan and Matilda Wnek, “The Road Trip” is the second Beth O’Leary adaptation by Paramount+ and 42, following “The Flatshare,” which also extensively filmed in Bristol in 2022. The shoot provided valuable work experience to eight local industry entrants who shadowed different departments on set.

The Bristol Film Office reported that filming in Bristol and at The Bottle Yard Studios contributed £30m to the local economy in the 2023-2024 financial year. Other notable productions that contributed to this economic boost include “Rivals,” “The Outlaws,” and “A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder.”
