20 LGBTQ+ Shows That Ended or Got Canceled in 2024

Another year, another round of LGBTQ+ shows saying goodbye in 2024. In the current era of streaming, not every show finds the success or recognition it deserves, leading to the unfortunate cancellation of many queer projects after just a season or two.

In the past, Out reported on a staggering number of LGBTQ+ inclusive shows that were either canceled or concluded. In 2022, at least 23 LGBTQ+ shows were affected, followed by a shocking 30 shows in 2023. This year, the tally adds up to an estimated 70 LGBTQ-inclusive series that have ended or been canceled in the last three years.

Let’s take a look at some of the 2024 LGBTQ+ shows that won’t be returning next year:

1. Élite: This Spanish teen drama took viewers inside Las Encinas, an elite private school, for eight seasons of wild teen dramas. Unfortunately, the eighth season marked the end of this beloved series. Élite can be streamed on Netflix.

2. What We Do in the Shadows: A hilarious sitcom about a group of misfit vampires living in New York City, this show offered queer representation, laughs, and heartfelt moments. The final season aired this year and can be found on Hulu.

3. Arcane: A visually stunning animated series that initially followed sisters Vi and Jinx in a complex political landscape. While it only lasted two seasons, spin-offs are in the works. Arcane is available on Netflix.

4. The Acolyte: This Star Wars show, created and led by an LGBTQ+ individual, Leslye Headland, focused on two force-sensitive sisters a century before the original Star Wars film. Unfortunately, it was canceled after one season. The Acolyte can be streamed on Disney+.

5. Chucky: Don Mancini, the gay creator of the Child’s Play franchise, brought his iconic characters to television in a campy and gory series about a boy, his boyfriend, and their friends battling a murderous doll. Chucky is available on Peacock.
