Renovated Trevi Fountain Reopens in Rome for Jubilee Holy Year
Rome’s beloved Trevi Fountain reopened its doors after a three-month renovation, just in time for the anticipated 2025 Jubilee Holy Year. This iconic 18th-century monument underwent maintenance costing 327,000 euros to ensure it is in top shape.
To prevent overcrowding, a cap of 400 visitors at a time has been implemented. According to Claudio Parisi Presicce, Rome’s superintendent for cultural heritage, this visitor limit will give everyone a chance to appreciate the fountain’s significance fully.
In preparation for the upcoming Jubilee festivities, Rome City officials have outlined a plan to secure the area around the fountain, expecting a substantial turnout. Visitors will need to book tickets online and pay a small fee of 2 euros for a 30-minute slot to enjoy the fountain.
During the maintenance period, visitors could toss coins into a temporary pool, a tradition believed to bring luck and a return trip to Rome. This practice generates around 1.5 million euros annually, with all donations going to the Catholic charity Caritas for the last 15 years.
