Why Baylor football signee will not play in Gunter’s Texas state football title bid
In Gunter’s latest bid for a Texas state football title, they’re missing a key player on the field during the Class 3A Division II championship game. Colin Peacock, a standout receiver and defensive back for the Tigers, suffered a knee injury in the Region I-3A Division II finals against Holliday, ending his season abruptly. Despite signing with Baylor the day before the game, Peacock’s presence is sorely missed by his team.
However, the Tigers managed to survive a tough match against Wall in the state semifinals without Peacock. As they face off against Woodville in the state title game, they currently hold a 7-0 lead at halftime. This isn’t the first time Gunter has had to play without Peacock, who is ranked as a 3-star prospect as a safety and the 182nd overall prospect in Texas by 247Sports.com.
Interestingly, Gunter actually won a state title last year without Peacock due to multiple collarbone injuries he suffered during his junior year. Despite this setback, the Tigers emerged victorious with a 30-14 win over Tidehaven in the 2023 3A DII title game. This season, Peacock appeared in 10 games, showcasing his skills with 24 catches for 521 yards and eight touchdowns. On the defensive end, he racked up 39 tackles, 11 pass breakups, and five interceptions, including two returned for touchdowns.
