HBO Max has officially greenlit the second season of the highly-anticipated prequel series, Dune: Prophecy. The big news was revealed during a virtual press conference where executive producer Alison Schapker and stars Emily Watson and Olivia Williams shared the exciting announcement. HBO Max wasted no time in spreading the word on their social media platforms. The news of the second season drop comes just before the first season’s finale, scheduled to air this Sunday.

Dune: Prophecy serves as a prequel to the Dune movies that were directed by Denis Villeneuve. The series explores the early history of the Bene Gesserit, a powerful female order in the Dune saga, set a whopping 10,000 years before the events of the popular films. Viewers will delve into the origins of the Bene Gesserit, who were instrumental in secretly influencing the great houses of the Empire on the desert planet of Dune.

At the core of the series are two morally complex sisters, portrayed by Emily Watson and Olivia Williams, who are key figures in this clandestine organization. The Dune films feature Lady Jessica Atreides, played by Rebecca Ferguson, an important member of the Bene Gesserit, passing down the order’s spiritual teachings to her son, Paul Atreides, played by Timothee Chalamet.

Dune: Prophecy will further unravel the mysteries surrounding the Bene Gesserit, their immense power, and the significant impact they wield. In the upcoming second season, viewers can expect to see the ongoing rivalry between the two sisters and their competitor, Desmond Hart, portrayed by Travis Fimmel. The series is co-produced by Legendary Television and is based on the novel titled “Sisterhood of Dune” by Brian Herbert and Kevin Anderson.
