Venice Wins Fourth FHSAA Football State Title
Venice just grabbed their fourth FHSAA Football State Title victory with a stellar win over Lake Mary, 52-19 at Pitbull Stadium. The coach, John Peacock, may not have shared the same level of elation as his wife, Georgia Peacock, but for him, the win was more about relief than just celebration. Losing the game could have labeled them a laughingstock, something he was eager to avoid.
Peacock had his moments of fear as his team faced some early-game jitters. However, Jamarice Wilder and Winston Watkins Jr. showed up strong, ensuring the win in an impressive style. With Wilder scoring three times and Watkins adding three touchdowns of his own, including a 60-yard punt return, the victory was in safe hands.
The win marked Venice’s fourth state title, equalling them with other notable teams. Peacock’s third crown also moved him up the ladder on the coaching front, nearing the likes of renowned coaches in the area. Reflecting on the season, Peacock pointed out key moments that showed the team’s potential to clinch the state title.
Just like any coach, Peacock felt a mix of sadness and pride as the season came to an end. While some players move on, leaving behind memories, Peacock started looking ahead, planning for the ceremonial parade in Venice and gearing up for the upcoming season. As they look to maintain their consistency and edge, Peacock remains relieved and focused on the journey ahead.
