NBC Sports joins Madden video game universe with alternate broadcast on Peacock
NBC Sports is jumping into the Madden video game universe with its first NFL alternate broadcast, featuring the Houston Texans taking on the Kansas City Chiefs. This special broadcast will air on Peacock, while the main broadcast will be on NBC starting at 1 p.m. EST.
It’s a unique twist on traditional NFL coverage, with NBC joining the ranks of CBS, ESPN/ABC, and Amazon Prime Video in offering alternate viewing experiences for football fans. The Madden altcast on Peacock will incorporate elements from the popular video game, such as graphics, player cards, and real-time data provided by GenuisIQ and the league’s Next Gen Stats.
NBC has been using its “Sunday Night Football” broadcasts as test runs to ensure that the technology and presentation are top-notch. The broadcast team, including Paul Burmeister, Madden NFL expert Kurt Benkert, and former Pro Bowl wide receiver Chad Ochocinco, will provide commentary that delves deep into the on-field strategy.
Fans can expect to see animations from the Madden video game, like touchdown celebrations, integrated into the live action coverage. Ochocinco will even have the ability to adjust player ratings based on their performance during the game, adding an exciting interactive element to the broadcast.
This alternate broadcast holds personal significance for NBC Sports Executive Producer of NFL Fred Gaudelli, who worked closely with John Madden during the legendary broadcaster’s time on “Monday Night Football” and “Sunday Night Football.”
It’s an innovative and fun way for fans to experience the game in a new light, blending the excitement of Madden with the thrill of live NFL action. Tune in to Peacock on Saturday to catch all the action!
