Stephanie Hsu and Zosia Mamet Discuss Their Characters and Improv Moments
Stephanie Hsu and Zosia Mamet take on the roles of Ruby and AJ in the new comedy series Laid, set to debut on Peacock with all eight episodes releasing on December 19.
Laid tells the story of a woman who discovers that her ex-lovers are meeting tragic ends in strange ways, prompting her to revisit her romantic history to find closure and move forward. It’s a twisted romantic comedy that doesn’t shy away from the tough questions like “Why can’t I find love?” and answers with a blunt “Yes, there’s definitely something wrong with you.”
In a recent interview, Stephanie Hsu, who is also an executive producer of the show, couldn’t stop gushing about her co-star Zosia Mamet’s improvisational skills. She shared, “It’s not about me, it’s about Zosia. I could go on all day about Zosia’s improv. Zosia and Andre Hyland are just mind-blowing. They can come up with full sentences and entire worlds on the spot. There was a moment in episode two at the wedding where AJ ad-libs about inventing toothpaste flavors off camera, and I knew she made it up and it’s my favorite line in the whole show.”
Zosia Mamet, on the other hand, had nothing but praise for Stephanie Hsu’s talent. She mentioned, “I was in awe every single day we worked together. Making this show was an absolute joy. We had an amazing cast and crew, and every person we collaborated with brought so much brilliance and generosity to the table. We had the opportunity to dive deep into our characters as actors but also have fun and be silly, making each other laugh along the way.”
The chemistry between the two stars is evident both on and off the screen, making Laid a must-watch series for fans of romantic comedies with a twist.
