Prison Break, the beloved series that captured the hearts of fans from 2005 to 2017, is making a grand return. According to Variety, Hulu has greenlit a pilot episode for a reboot of the show, with development officially confirmed in November 2023. But here’s where things might get a bit bittersweet for fans—the original cast will not be reprising their roles. Instead, the reboot will introduce a fresh set of characters, set in the same universe as the original series.

Paul Scheuring, the mastermind behind the original series, is back on board as executive producer, joined by Dawn Olmstead, Marty Adelstein, Neil Moritz, and Elgin James. The original Prison Break aired four seasons on Fox, wrapping up in 2009 before staging a triumphant return in 2017 for a fifth season. The show centered around the gripping story of brothers Lincoln Burrows (played by Dominic Purcell) and Michael Scofield (portrayed by Wentworth Miller) as they navigated the complexities of life behind bars.

Viewers were captivated by the brothers’ journey, particularly in the first season where Lincoln faced a death sentence for a crime he didn’t commit, and Michael orchestrated an intricate plan to break him out of prison. The series boasted a talented ensemble cast including Robin Tunney, Peter Stormare, Amaury Nolasco, Marshall Allman, Wade Williams, and Paul Adelstein, as noted by the Express.

Prison Break garnered widespread critical acclaim and became a fan favorite, amassing impressive ratings during its run on Fox. The show received several prestigious award nominations, ultimately clinching the 2006 People’s Choice Award for Favorite New TV Drama and the 2005 Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series Drama.

In addition to its television success, Prison Break expanded its storytelling into other mediums, spawning a video game, online webisodes, an official magazine, and even a novel. While fans may be disappointed that the original stars won’t be ushering in the reboot, they can still celebrate the reunion of Dominic Purcell and Wentworth Miller in a thrilling new project called Snatchback, a hostage drama based on true events.

For those eager to relive the excitement of the original series, all five seasons of Prison Break are currently available for streaming on both Netflix and Disney+. As for the reboot’s premiere date, that’s still under wraps, so fans will have to stay tuned for further updates!
