Sesame Street is on the lookout for a new home after HBO and Max chose not to renew their deal with the iconic children’s TV show. This decision means that the original episodes of Sesame Street will need to find a new platform to call home. Max will be teaming up with Sesame Workshop, the show’s producer, to license episodes from its library until 2027. However, it’s uncertain if this deal will prevent other potential partners from also picking up the older episodes of the program.

The streamer’s choice to move on from Sesame Street comes as part of a new strategy to focus more on adult and family-oriented content, with less emphasis on children’s programming. A spokesperson from Max expressed their gratitude for the collaboration with Sesame Street, highlighting the importance of keeping some of the library series available on their platform. They also mentioned that they are committed to investing in top-quality programming and are excited to share their new distribution plans soon to ensure that Sesame Street continues to reach as many children as possible for years to come.

Sesame Street, which first debuted in 1969, has been a beloved fixture on PBS since 1970. The show made its move to HBO in 2016, with episodes airing on PBS shortly after premiering on HBO to maximize accessibility. In 2019, a deal was struck to bring Sesame Street to HBO Max, which has now transitioned to just Max. It’s a big change for this iconic show, but rest assured, Sesame Street will find a new home where it can continue to educate and entertain generations of children.
