Sesame Street Episodes for Sale as Max Cancels Deal

“Sesame Street” is on the move as Warner Bros. Discovery opts not to renew the show’s deal with HBO and Max. This means the iconic children’s series will be looking for a new home after its upcoming 55th season, premiering in January, finishes up on the platform. While Max will continue to license episodes from the “Sesame Street” library through 2027, this upcoming season will mark the end of new episodes debuting on Max.

This decision comes as part of a strategy by Warner Bros. Discovery to shift its focus away from children’s programming and prioritize stories for adults and families. So, “Sesame Street” is now up for grabs as it searches for a new distribution platform.

Despite the change, the team at Sesame Workshop, the show’s producer, is looking forward to finding new distribution plans to ensure that “Sesame Street” can continue to reach as many children as possible for generations to come.

The show has had a bit of a rocky journey in the streaming world since HBO first landed its agreement in 2015. In 2020, around 200 episodes were abruptly removed from HBO Max, along with 36 other shows, including a “Sesame Street” spinoff. And in 2023, the announcement came that the 56th season, set for 2025, would be “reimagined” with a new format.

It will be interesting to see where “Sesame Street” lands next and how the show continues to evolve to stay fresh and engaging for its young audience. Stay tuned for updates as the search for its new home continues!
