The global streaming market is expanding rapidly and is anticipated to reach 2 billion paid subscriptions by 2029. Analysts at Ampere predict a revenue of $190 billion annually by that time, driven by key strategic developments in the industry. Companies like Netflix are implementing better subscription management, such as their crackdown on account-sharing and the introduction of cheaper ad-supported tiers. Competitors like Disney+ and others are also ramping up their bundling strategies to stay ahead in the market.

Ampere’s research manager, Maria Dunleavey, highlighted that in well-established streaming markets like the UK, where a majority of households already subscribe to services like Netflix, the focus is shifting towards maximizing revenue through per-subscriber monetization. To achieve their projected 30 percent growth by 2029, streaming platforms are exploring new avenues to generate income from existing subscribers.

For instance, Netflix, Disney, and Amazon have introduced new features like ‘Extra member’ add-on costs and ad-supported tiers to attract more budget-conscious viewers and create additional revenue streams through advertising. The data suggests that these ad-supported tiers could bring in an extra $22 billion in global revenue by 2029. To sustain growth, streaming services must work on optimizing ad loads and continue investing in user engagement to ensure customer loyalty despite potential increases in ads or subscription costs down the line.
