Lonely Chimpanzee Rescued from Roadside Zoo After PETA Pressure

In a fantastic turn of events, Limbani the chimpanzee, who was held in solitary confinement at Mario Tabraue’s Zoological Wildlife Foundation in Miami, has been rescued and relocated to the Save the Chimps sanctuary in Fort Pierce, Florida. This rescue marks a significant victory for animal welfare, as Limbani was kept isolated from other chimpanzees for eight years, following his separation from his mother as an infant.

Thanks to an escalating pressure campaign by PETA and the release of the HBO Max docuseries “Chimp Crazy,” Limbani’s plight gained widespread attention. PETA offered a reward for evidence leading to his confiscation, mobilized 200,000 members and supporters to advocate for his release, and filed complaints with state officials about his exploitation at the zoo. Eventually, the decision was made to move Limbani to the sanctuary, where he will have the chance to interact with other chimpanzees and enjoy a more natural habitat.

Limbani’s rescue is just one of the many efforts by PETA to rescue chimpanzees from dire circumstances. In the past, PETA has helped transfer 24 other chimpanzees to accredited sanctuaries, providing them with spacious outdoor areas and the opportunity to socialize with their own species. By supporting these sanctuaries and advocating for legislative changes, PETA aims to ensure a better future for all chimpanzees in captivity.

If you have any information about other chimpanzees in need of rescue, such as Bow or Ricky, please reach out to PETA. Every animal deserves compassion and respect, and PETA’s work is dedicated to upholding these values.
