Four-Part SNL Docuseries Coming to Peacock in the Next Month
Peacock is gearing up for a big celebration of Saturday Night Live’s 50th anniversary with a new docuseries called SNL50: Beyond Saturday Night. This four-part series, set to premiere on January 16th, promises to give viewers a unique behind-the-scenes look at the iconic show.
Featuring rare footage, celebrity interviews, and insights from over 60 contributors, primarily former cast members and writers, SNL50 dives deep into different aspects of the show. The first two episodes explore the audition process and the inner workings of the writers’ room. Episode three takes a closer look at the making of the famous “More Cowbell” sketch by Will Ferrell, while episode four delves into a pivotal moment in SNL’s history during Season 11.
The docuseries is executive-produced by the acclaimed documentarian Morgan Neville, known for his work on films like 20 Feet From Stardom and the recent Pharrell Williams Lego biopic. Neville expressed his passion for Saturday Night Live, stating that SNL50 offers a new perspective on the show’s inner workings.
The series features a star-studded lineup of directors, including Robert Alexander, Marshall Curry, Neil Berkeley, and Jason Zeldes, working under the banner of Lorne Michaels’ Broadway Video production company.
While SNL50 promises to be a comprehensive look at the show’s history, it will not include previously discussed documentaries on SNL’s impact on music and legendary writer Jim Downey. However, fans can catch all four episodes of SNL50: Beyond Saturday Night on Peacock starting January 16, 2025, ahead of the show’s primetime special on February 16.
