West Mercia Police Officer Jailed for Misconduct

0

A former West Mercia Police officer has been sentenced to 18 months in jail after admitting to misconduct in a public office. Nicholas Peacock, a 40-year-old former PC, was involved in a sexual relationship with a suspect in an assault case he was supposed to be investigating. Instead of carrying out a proper investigation, he neglected to pursue the case thoroughly, falsely claimed there were no witnesses, and incorrectly stated that the victim did not want to press charges.

Acting Deputy Chief Constable Rachel Jones expressed her disapproval of Peacock’s actions, emphasizing that such behavior is not tolerated within the police force. Peacock, stationed in Market Drayton, was suspended from his duties in April 2022 when the allegations surfaced. He later resigned in March of this year but will still face misconduct proceedings.

Peacock’s initial sentence of 27 months was reduced to 18 due to his guilty plea. DCC Jones condemned his actions, calling them deplorable and emphasizing that he abused his authority as a police officer, ultimately betraying the victim’s trust in him to handle the case fairly.

In response to Peacock’s negligence, West Mercia Police reopened the case he mishandled and charged a suspect. This serves as a reminder of the importance of integrity and honesty within the police force.
