Two Irish Actors Ready to Compete in Top Golden Globes Categories
The 2025 Golden Globe nominations have arrived! This year, two talented Irish actors, Colin Farrell and Andrew Scott, are going head-to-head in two major categories. It’s a showdown you won’t want to miss!
Hailing from Dublin, Farrell and Scott are both up for Best Performance By A Male Actor In A Limited Series, Anthology Series, Or A Motion Picture Made For Television. Farrell earned his nod for his role in HBO Max’s “The Penguin,” while Scott is being recognized for his work in Netflix’s “Ripley.” Joining them in the category are other noteworthy actors like Richard Gadd, Kevin Kline, Cooper Koch, and Ewan McGregor.
But the competition doesn’t stop there. Farrell’s “The Penguin” and Scott’s “Ripley” are also vying for the title of Best Television Limited Series, Anthology Series Or Motion Picture Made For Television. They’ll be facing off against other fantastic shows like “Baby Reindeer,” “Disclaimer,” “Monsters: The Lyle And Erik Menendez Story,” and “True Detective: Night Country.”
Farrell already has two Golden Globe wins to his name, so he’s no stranger to the excitement of awards season. As for Scott, he’s hoping to snag his first-ever Golden Globe after previous nominations for “All Of Us Strangers” and “Fleabag.”
Unfortunately, some other Irish talents didn’t quite make the cut this year. Paul Mescal, fresh off his “SNL” hosting gig, missed out on an acting nod for “Gladiator II,” but the film itself did earn a nomination in the Cinematic and Box Office Achievement category. Daryl McCormack starred in “Twisters,” which also received a nomination in that same category.
Saoirse Ronan, the beloved Irish actress, was locked out of nominations for her projects “The Outrun” and “Blitz.” Similarly, “Kneecap,” the critically-acclaimed film about an Irish language hip-hop trio, missed out on expected nominations.
Be sure to mark your calendars for the Golden Globes 2025 Awards Ceremony, airing live on CBS and streaming on Paramount+ on Sunday, January 5, 2025. It’s sure to be a night full of excitement, surprises, and plenty of Irish talent on display. Stay tuned for more updates as the big night approaches!
