Emilia Perez leads Golden Globe film nominations as ‘The Brutalist’
Musical thriller Emilia Perez and historical epic The Brutalist are leading the pack of films nominated for the 2025 Golden Globes. Emilia Perez, available on Netflix, received an impressive 10 nominations, while The Brutalist, distributed by A24, earned seven nods. Winning a Globe can significantly boost a film’s chances at the Academy Awards in March, and with last year’s Hollywood strikes causing disruptions, this year’s awards season is wide open with no clear frontrunner for the coveted best picture award at the Oscars.
The Golden Globe winners will be selected by 334 entertainment journalists from 85 countries and will be unveiled on January 5th during a live ceremony broadcast on CBS and streamed on Paramount+. Emilia Perez stars Zoe Saldana as a lawyer who aids a drug cartel leader, played by Spanish actor Karla Sofía Gascón, in faking his death and transitioning from a man to a woman. Selena Gomez also appears in the film as the cartel leader’s wife, and all three actors received acting nominations from the Globes voters.
On the other hand, The Brutalist features Adrien Brody in a gripping story of a Hungarian immigrant escaping the horrors of World War Two to start anew in the United States. Additionally, the box office hit Wicked, based on a popular Broadway play centered around the witches in The Wizard of Oz, secured four nominations.
It’s an exciting time in the world of film as these exceptional works vie for top honors. Stay tuned for the Golden Globe announcements on January 5th to see which of these outstanding movies will emerge victorious.
