Minnesota State University Mavericks Begin Dual Season Against Peacocks

The Mavericks kicked off their season with a dual match against Upper Iowa, which unfortunately ended in a 29-9 loss for MSU. The action started at the 184-lb. weight class, with Upper Iowa taking control early on.

Despite the tough start, junior Caleb Meunier from Winneconne, Wis., managed to secure a 18-0 tech fall victory over UIU’s Dalton Schams. Meunier showed great skill and determination, with multiple takedowns and nearfalls leading to his impressive win.

Following Meunier’s victory, junior Kole Marko from Amery, Wis., continued to showcase the Mavericks’ fighting spirit by securing a 14-5 major decision against Collin Altensey of UIU. Marko’s strategic takedowns and smart escapes helped secure the win for MSU, bringing the team score to 25-9 in favor of UIU.

Although the dual ended with a final score of 29-9 in favor of Upper Iowa, the Mavericks are looking ahead to their next challenge. The team will be traveling to Sioux Falls next Friday, Dec. 13th, to take on the University of Sioux Falls in their conference dual season opener.
