A new documentary on Disney+ offers an intimate look at the Beatles’ first trip to America in 1964. The film, titled “Beatles ’64,” features rare and newly restored footage of the band goofing around as they took the U.S. by storm.

Produced by Margaret Bodde and Martin Scorsese, the documentary showcases moments like Paul McCartney feeding seagulls off his hotel balcony, and George Harrison and John Lennon playfully exchanging jackets. The film captures the youthful energy of the Fab Four during their 14-day trip, filmed by documentarians Albert and David Maysles.

Restored by Park Road Post in New Zealand, the footage is described as timeless, despite being black and white and not in widescreen. Director David Tedeschi emphasizes how the documentary brings the Beatles and their fans to life, showcasing their charm and musical talent.

In addition to the rare footage, the documentary includes interviews with surviving members of the band and fans who were impacted by their visit to the U.S. Viewers will also learn about the band’s interactions with the media and the older generation, who often ridiculed or dismissed them.

To complement the documentary, a box set of vinyl albums containing the Beatles’ U.S. releases from 1964 and 1965 has been released. The collection includes iconic albums such as “Meet The Beatles!,” “A Hard Day’s Night,” and “The Beatles’ Second Album.”

Overall, “Beatles ’64” offers a nostalgic and insightful look at the iconic band’s early days in America, highlighting their influence on music and culture.
