Apple TV+ Announces “Government Cheese”: A Surrealist Family Comedy Set in the 1960s
Apple TV+ recently shared exciting news about their upcoming comedy series “Government Cheese,” led by the talented David Oyelowo. This 10-episode delight is set to debut globally on April 16, 2025, with the first four episodes available at the start, followed by a new episode every Wednesday until May 28th.
Transporting us back to the vibrant vibes of the 1960s in the San Fernando Valley, “Government Cheese” focuses on the Chambers family. This eccentric crew chases their dreams while navigating life’s ups and downs. When Hampton Chambers (played by Oyelowo) returns from prison, he shakes up the unique family dynamic he once knew.
Joining Oyelowo are stars Simone Missick, Jahi Di’Allo Winston, and Evan Ellison, accompanied by a stellar supporting cast featuring Bokeem Woodbine, Jeremy Bobb, and John Ortiz.
Behind the scenes, the creative minds of Paul Hunter and Aeysha Carr drive the show as creators, writers, executive producers, and co-showrunners. Hunter takes on directing duties, while Oyelowo wears the hat of executive producer for the series through his Yoruba Saxon banner.
