Streaming giant Netflix has recently announced a price increase for its monthly subscription plans in the United States. Starting in October 2021, the standard plan will now cost $13.99 per month, up from $12.99, while the premium plan will see a $2 increase to $19.99 per month. The basic plan will remain at $8.99 per month.

The standard plan allows customers to watch on two screens at the same time and in HD, while the premium plan includes the option to watch on four screens simultaneously and in Ultra HD. The basic plan only allows for one screen and does not include HD streaming.

This price increase comes as Netflix continues to invest heavily in producing original content to compete with other streaming services such as Disney+, HBO Max, and Amazon Prime Video. The company spent over $17 billion on content in 2020 and has seen success with popular shows like “Stranger Things,” “The Crown,” and “Bridgerton.”

While price increases are never welcome news for consumers, Netflix has stated that the extra revenue will go towards creating even more high-quality content for its subscribers to enjoy. So, if you’re a Netflix fan, you may have to fork out a little extra cash each month, but hopefully, you’ll have even more great shows and movies to binge-watch in the future!
