Margo Martindale Stars in The Sticky: A Crime Series Based on a Quebec Maple Syrup Heist

Margo Martindale, known for her standout supporting roles in acclaimed series like Justified, The Americans, and Mrs. America, takes the lead in Prime Video’s new Quebec-set black comedy, The Sticky. Martindale plays Ruth Landry, a maple syrup farmer facing challenging circumstances, who teams up with a security guard and a Boston bad guy to plot a heist inspired by the Great Canadian Maple Syrup Heist of 2012.

In a recent interview, Martindale shared insights into her role as Ruth Landry. She discussed the complexity of the character, describing her as a hard worker at the height of her rage. Martindale found the role appealing because it allowed her to explore a new type of character she hadn’t played before.

Despite being labeled as a character actor, Martindale embraces the title, believing that all actors are character actors in their own right. She expressed her admiration for actors like Meryl Streep who consistently take on diverse and challenging roles, emphasizing the importance of creating new characters.

During the interview, Martindale also discussed her experience filming in Quebec and how it provided her with a deeper understanding of Quebecois culture. She highlighted the French influences in the region and appreciated the opportunity to portray Montreal authentically on screen, without it being disguised as another location.

Martindale’s performance in The Sticky showcases her versatility as an actor, bringing to life a character filled with depth, humor, and authenticity. Viewers can stream all six episodes of The Sticky on Prime Video starting December 6th.
