“Harry Potter Reboot Series Receives Major Update with Filming Date Announcement”
Production of the HBO series Harry Potter is set to kick off at Warner Bros Studios Leavesden, in northwest London, in the summer of 2025. The reboot series will introduce a fresh cast while staying true to the original books, aiming to captivate both new and existing fans with the enchanting wizarding world.
For those unfamiliar, Leavesden, situated in Watford, north of London, was notably used as the primary filming location for the successful movie Barbie in 2023. Warner Bros’ streaming service, Max, recently shared the exciting news on social media, indicating that production on the HBO Original Series, #HarryPotter, will commence at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in the upcoming year.
The upcoming series, which was announced in 2023, promises to faithfully adapt JK Rowling’s iconic books, ensuring that the essence of the beloved franchise is maintained. Each season will bring to life the magical adventures of Harry Potter in a fresh way for audiences worldwide, while the classic films with the original cast will remain available for fans to enjoy.
In preparation for this ambitious project, a casting call was released, inviting children aged between nine and eleven from the UK or Ireland to audition for leading roles. So far, around 32,000 hopefuls have tried out, with the selection team diligently reviewing up to 1,000 tapes daily.
Francesca Gardiner and Mark Mylod, well-known for their work on the acclaimed series Succession, have been confirmed as the executive producers for the Harry Potter series. While the casting choices for the iconic characters like Harry, Ron, and Hermione, originally portrayed by Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson, are yet to be announced, fans eagerly anticipate updates on the new cast.
It’s worth noting that JK Rowling, the creator of the Harry Potter universe, has faced criticism in recent years for her views on gender identity. The original film trio, Radcliffe, Watson, and Grint, have publicly expressed their support for transgender rights, aligning with a more inclusive approach to the beloved franchise. In fact, a Harry Potter 20th-anniversary reunion special that aired in 2022 on HBO Max excluded Rowling from the live segments, featuring her only through archival footage.
