David Oyelowo stars in first look at Government Cheese on Apple TV+
David Oyelowo is making his return to Apple TV+ with an exciting new series called Government Cheese. The show, described as a “surrealist family comedy,” is set to premiere on April 16, 2025. It follows the Chambers family in 1969 San Fernando Valley as they navigate the challenges of pursuing their dreams in a world that doesn’t always cooperate. When Hampton Chambers, played by Oyelowo, is released from prison, he discovers that his family has created a unique and unconventional unit in his absence. Chaos ensues as they navigate their reunion and attempt to chase their version of the American dream while subsisting on government cheese.
Oyelowo, who signed a first-look deal with Apple TV+ for his production company, Yoruba Saxon, has been thrilled to be a part of the Apple Original lineup. He praised Apple’s commitment to working with creatives and their approach to content creation. The series is written, executive produced, and co-showrun by Paul Hunter and Aeysha Carr, with a talented cast that includes Bokeem Woodbine, Jeremy Bobb, Louis Cancelmi, and many more.
The first four episodes of Government Cheese will premiere on April 16, followed by weekly releases until May 28.
