Disney+ Remains Silent as IRA Bomber Marian Price Plans to Sue for Depiction in Say Nothing
Disney+ has been facing some controversy lately, as Old Bailey bomber Marian Price is gearing up to sue the streaming service for defamation over its portrayal of her in the show Say Nothing. Price strongly denies any involvement in the 1972 murder of Jean McConville by the IRA, whose body was found buried in Co Louth in 2003.
Say Nothing, inspired by a book of the same name by Patrick Radden Keefe, follows Marian Price and her late sister Dolours, delving into the activities of an IRA unit known as ‘The Unknowns’. In one scene, the Price sisters are depicted behind Mrs. McConville, with Marian allegedly taking a gun from her sister and firing the fatal shot.
Legal action is being taken by Price through her representative, Peter Corrigan, who asserts that the allegations made in the show are baseless and damaging. Disney+ has not yet responded to these claims.
Marian Price and Dolours Price, her sister, were both imprisoned for their roles in the 1973 Old Bailey bombing. They went on a hunger strike while incarcerated in England in hopes of being transferred to Northern Ireland, and were ultimately released in 1980 due to a Royal Prerogative of Mercy.
Marian Price’s legal troubles did not end there, as she faced charges related to the Real IRA killings in 2009 and allegedly supporting an illegal organization. Ultimately released from prison in 2013, Price is now taking action against Disney+ for the depiction of her in Say Nothing.
The Boston College tapes, part of an oral history project exploring the Troubles, played a significant role in uncovering aspects of the Price sisters’ involvement in paramilitary activities. Marian Price’s legal battle against Disney+ signals a new chapter in her turbulent history, as she seeks to clear her name of the serious allegations made in the show.
As this legal battle unfolds, the repercussions for both Marian Price and Disney+ remain to be seen. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
