Nissan launches groundbreaking inclusive sports documentary ‘Dare to Defy’: Stream on Prime Video
Nissan has just released a new sports documentary called ‘Dare to Defy’ on Prime Video in the UK, US, and Canada. This three-part series is all about breaking down barriers in sports, and it features British Paralympic gold medalist Richard Whitehead MBE and LGBTQ+ advocate Adele Roberts.
In these episodes, Richard and Adele investigate the challenges faced by underrepresented communities when trying to take part in sports like motorsport, football, and running. They show how anyone can achieve their goals when given the same opportunities in sports. For example, Richard visits Nissan’s Formula E Team to see how they are promoting inclusion in motorsport, while Adele discusses inclusivity in football with professional players and LGBTQ+ supporters.
The series wraps up with a special event at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London, where Richard and Adele organize an inclusive running event called ‘Run to the Future’. This event brings together over 700 people from diverse backgrounds to participate in a 2k or 5k race with trained support runners to help disabled participants.
Richard Whitehead shared his excitement about the project, saying, “Filming Dare to Defy has been such an amazing experience. I’ve been inspired by people around the world, and it’s only served to highlight the unifying impact of sport.” Adele Roberts added, “This has been such an eye-opening experience for me. As a result of my cancer journey and having a stoma, I feel privileged to now be part of the non-visible disability community.”
The documentary is part of Nissan’s Possibilities Project, a program that aims to create more opportunities for people from underrepresented communities like the disability and LGBTQ+ communities. Fiona Mackay, Nissan GB Marketing Director, commented on the initiative, saying, “It is no secret that disabled people and other marginalized groups often don’t feel confident enough or welcome to participate in sport. We’re striving to make sure this changes, so that everyone has the same opportunities and is treated equally.”
