James Gunn Explains “Light Canon” in the New DC Extended Universe

James Gunn is making waves in the DCU with his upcoming Superman film, setting a new canon that leaves Zack Snyder’s legacy behind. But don’t worry, elements of the old world, like Peacemaker, will still have a place in Gunn’s vision. According to Gunn, season two of Peacemaker will take us on a different journey, with Frank Grillo playing a prominent role in this “magical story.”

But what about the Snyderverse Justice League cameo at the end of last season? Gunn clarifies that anything from the old world is only considered canon if it’s mentioned in the new DCU shows and movies. This makes it what he calls “light canon,” with one exception – a certain group that hasn’t been introduced yet.

So, keep an eye out for familiar references in Gunn’s new DCU. Who knows, maybe we’ll even get a nod to Granny’s Peach Tea and the infamous pee gag. But with Henry Cavill’s Superman officially out of the picture, it seems unlikely. The hierarchy of power in the DCU is shifting, and we’re in for a wild ride!
