BBC Wins Big at RTS Craft & Design Awards
The BBC cleaned up at the RTS Craft & Design Awards, taking home a whopping 10 awards last night. Among their wins were two Director awards – Janet Fraser Crook snagged the Director – Multicamera award for her work on Coldplay at Glastonbury 2024, while Paddy Wivell’s Hell Jumper won in the Director – Non-scripted category.
Not far behind was Netflix, raking in seven awards, including the Sound – Scripted award for the hit show Baby Reindeer. Eric, a psychological thriller series produced by Sister and Little Chick for Netflix, scored big with three wins for Effects – SFX, Photography – Scripted, and Picture Enhancement.
A new category, Multicamera Work – Sport, was taken home by Sean Randle for Sky Sports’ World Darts Championship Final 2024 broadcast. The judges were impressed by the level of skill it took to capture the excitement and atmosphere of the event.
The RTS Special Award for 2024 was presented to organizations like The TV Collective, The Film and TV Charity and TV Mindset for their work in supporting TV freelancers facing challenges. And the Outstanding Contribution Award went to producer, writer, and director Peter Kosminsky, known for his work in journalism, documentary, and drama, including the recent BBC series, Wolf Hall.
Emma Gormley, Chair of RTS Craft & Design, praised the talent in the UK television industry. She highlighted the challenges faced by many in the past year and acknowledged the winners’ resilience in producing amazing programming.
