Star Wars Skeleton Crew: Creator Reveals Original Movie Pitch
Star Wars fans, get ready for a new adventure! The co-creator of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, Jon Watts, recently shared some behind-the-scenes details about the original movie pitch for the show. It turns out that Watts initially pitched the idea as a film to Lucasfilm after the success of Spider-Man: Homecoming in 2017. However, his commitments to Marvel Studios got in the way, and the project was put on hold.
But don’t worry, because Disney+ came to the rescue! With the launch of the streaming service, Watts and his co-creator, Chris Ford, found a new opportunity to bring their vision to life. They reimagined Skeleton Crew as an eight-part series, allowing them to explore the galaxy of Star Wars in a whole new way.
According to Watts, the core premise of Skeleton Crew remained intact, even as it transitioned from a movie to a TV show. This shift to long-form storytelling gave them the freedom to dive deeper into the characters and their world of piracy. With eight episodes to work with, the creative team had plenty of room to develop the story in ways that wouldn’t have been possible in a film.
Exciting news for Star Wars fans – the two-episode premiere of Skeleton Crew is set to debut on December 2nd exclusively on Disney+. So mark your calendars and get ready to embark on a new Star Wars adventure!
