Jon Watts Cancels Sequel for “Wolfs”

Apple has taken an interesting approach when it comes to releasing films, stepping into the theatrical space for some original projects but not all. For instance, in 2024, “Fly Me to the Moon” hit theaters before heading to Apple TV+ in December. On the other hand, the star-studded “Wolfs,” starring Brad Pitt and George Clooney, skipped theaters entirely and went straight to Apple TV+.

This decision has had repercussions for the future, as the planned sequel to “Wolfs” has been axed, not by Apple, but by director Jon Watts. In an interview with Deadline, Watts revealed that he decided to cancel the sequel due to a lack of trust with Apple and how they handled the distribution of the movie.

Watts shared that Apple was initially enthusiastic about “Wolfs” and had commissioned him to start writing a sequel after seeing the final cut. However, the sudden shift from a promised wide theatrical release to a streaming release caught him off guard. He wasn’t informed about this change until less than a week before it was announced to the public.

Feeling blindsided by the decision, Watts requested that Apple not include news of the sequel in their press release, but they went ahead and announced it anyway. In response, Watts returned the money given to him for the sequel, citing a loss of trust in Apple as a creative partner.

While there is no sequel in the works for “Wolfs” at the moment, there’s a possibility that Apple and Watts could come to an agreement in the future to ensure that the story continues. Many fans were impressed by the film and its entertainment value, and they’re hopeful for the return of Brad Pitt and George Clooney in a potential sequel.
