Hunter Schafer’s Debut Horror Film ‘Cuckoo’ Comes to Hulu in December
Hunter Schafer, known for her role in the popular Euphoria series, is venturing into the horror genre with her debut in Cuckoo, set to premiere on Hulu on December 17. The film takes place in the haunting setting of the German Alps and follows Gretchen (played by Schafer), a teenager struggling with the recent loss of her mother. When her father, Luis (Marton Csokas), lands a new job at a remote resort, Gretchen’s life takes a dark turn. Despite the picturesque surroundings, she begins to sense that something is amiss, especially with the mysterious owner of the property, Herr König (Dan Stevens). The cast of Cuckoo features a talented lineup including Jessica Henwick from The Matrix Resurrections (2021), Jan Bluthardt (Luz), Greta Fernández (A Thief’s Daughter), and Àstrid Bergès-Frisbey (Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides). Directed by Tilmann Singer, best known for his work on Luz in 2018, Cuckoo solidifies his position as an emerging voice in the horror genre.
Neon, the production company behind Cuckoo, had a successful year with projects like Immaculate and Longlegs that garnered praise from horror audiences, along with Anora. Looking ahead, Neon has exciting projects in the pipeline, including Oz Perkins’ The Monkey and Mike Flanagan’s The Life of Chuck.
