Hollywood’s Guide to Thanksgiving: What You Need to Know

0

It’s time for your Hollywood + Media news update on SUNDAY, December 1, 2024. Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend! I certainly did, enjoying my time in Ireland and catching some NFL action at local pubs. It’s always nice when the GIANTS lose early so you can relax and enjoy the rest of the weekend stress-free.

I did hit a snag though when I realized that my ad tier NETFLIX subscription was limited to certain countries. Unfortunately, I couldn’t watch Derry Girls in Ireland, but hopefully, I’ll have better luck when I head to England next. Lesson learned!

On the TV front, NBC hit it out of the park with the MACY’S Thanksgiving Day Parade, with a 10% increase in viewership over last year. The full weekend’s football ratings breakdown is available in the TV section below, along with some important numbers from NWSL, F1, and NBA.

In other news, congratulations are in order for the newly engaged Hailee Steinfeld and BUFFALO BILLS QB Josh Allen. Also, NBC is jumping on the animated NFL game alt-cast trend with a Madden NFL Cast video game version of the CHIEFS vs. TEXANS game coming soon to PEACOCK on December 21.

Australia is taking steps to protect kids by banning social media for those under 16, while Canada joins in on suing OPENAI for copyright infringement. And in the music world, SPOTIFY execs have cashed in $1.1B of stock in 2024.

Looking at the box office, it seems like more and more people spent their Thanksgiving weekend at the movies—an enjoyable break from the TIKTOK scrolling we all know and love. And with the streaming minutes indicator on the rise, it’s clear that catching a film was a popular choice this holiday season.

That’s a wrap for today’s update. Stay tuned for more Hollywood + Media news.
