Growing up in Fountain, Colorado, Jon Watts used to borrow a video camera to create fun films with friends instead of doing homework. Fast forward to today, and he’s a sought-after filmmaker in Hollywood, known for directing Spider-Man reboots and working with A-list actors like George Clooney and Brad Pitt.

Now, Watts has ventured into the Star Wars universe with a new Disney+ series called “Skeleton Crew,” set to premiere on December 3. The show follows four kids who discover a lost Jedi temple leading them to a galaxy far away. Watts shared how growing up in Colorado influences his work, from the landscapes to the natural elements. The snow in his recent film “Wolfs” was inspired by his Colorado upbringing.

Watts, a self-proclaimed Star Wars fan, embraced the challenge of bringing a fresh perspective to the iconic franchise by focusing on the wonder and awe of young characters encountering the galaxy for the first time. He found inspiration in his own experiences as a kid, like when he first visited New York City, feeling overwhelmed by the skyscrapers.

His approach to storytelling in “Skeleton Crew” is all about seeing the familiar Star Wars world through the innocent eyes of children who are new to it. Watts’ unique vision and creative process promise an exciting and refreshing addition to the Star Wars saga. Don’t miss the premiere of “Skeleton Crew” on Disney+ this December 3rd.
