Paramount+ with SHOWTIME has dropped the official trailer for the highly anticipated prequel to “Dexter: Original Sin,” featuring Patrick Gibson in the lead role. Fans of the original series will be excited to know that Michael C. Hall is returning to provide the iconic inner monologue for Dexter Morgan’s character. Hall is also set to star in the upcoming sequel series, “Dexter: Resurrection,” which continues the story from where “Dexter: New Blood” left off.

The new prequel, “Dexter: Original Sin,” is set in 1991 Miami and follows Dexter as he navigates the transition from student to avenging serial killer. With his father, Harry (Christian Slater), guiding him, Dexter adopts a Code to help him eliminate people who deserve to be taken out of society, all while avoiding the law enforcement’s radar. This presents a particular challenge for young Dexter as he begins an internship with the Miami Metro Police Department.

For fans of the original “Dexter” series, the prequel and sequel are sure to be a treat. “Dexter” originally aired on Showtime from 2006 to 2013 and returned with a limited series, “Dexter: New Blood,” a decade later. The upcoming series, “Dexter: Resurrection,” is set to debut in Summer 2025 and will pick up right where the story left off, potentially expanding into multiple seasons.

The new prequel, “Dexter: Original Sin,” premieres on Friday, December 13 for Paramount+ subscribers with the Paramount+ SHOWTIME plan, before making its on-air US debut on Sunday, December 15. Chris McCarthy, Paramount Global Co-CEO and President/CEO of Showtime & MTV Entertainment Studios, expressed excitement about Michael C. Hall reprising his role as Dexter Morgan, emphasizing the show’s enduring appeal to existing fans and its potential to attract new viewers.

With the successful legacy of “Dexter” and its recent resurgence, the show has garnered a massive fan base in the tens of millions, making it a cult classic. The series has accumulated 1.48 billion viewing minutes across various platforms, showcasing its enduring popularity. Fans eagerly await the return of Dexter and the dark world he inhabits as the story takes new and exciting directions in the prequel and sequel series.
