Disney’s Moana 2 is making waves at the box office, breaking records with its massive opening, earning over $57 million on its first day. Originally intended to be a Disney+ TV show, the sequel has exceeded expectations, despite disappointing some critics. Families are flocking to theaters to catch the adventure on the big screen.

With an impressive $57.5 million opening day, Moana 2 is projected to reach $175 million in its first five days in theaters. This could make it the biggest Thanksgiving opening weekend ever, surpassing hits like Frozen II and Hunger Games: Catching Fire. The film is already the third highest opening for an animated movie, behind Incredibles 2 and Inside Out 2.

Returning voice talents include Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as the demigod Maui and Auli’i Cravalho as Moana. The original Moana, released in 2016, was a global success, grossing over $680 million worldwide. At the premiere of Moana 2, Johnson encouraged fans to sing along with the songs and fully immerse themselves in the musical experience.

In contrast, the highly anticipated musical Wicked faced controversy as AMC banned singing along during screenings. Despite this, the movie has had a stellar box office opening, earning more than $240 million domestically. Gladiator 2, starring Paul Mescal, Denzel Washington, and Pedro Pascal, has also performed well, raking in over $141 million in the United States alone.

Moana 2 is proving to be a hit with audiences, continuing the beloved story of Moana and Maui. Fans can expect an epic adventure filled with catchy songs and heartwarming moments at the theaters.
