Mishawaka Man Charged After Shooting Victim Found
A Mishawaka resident, Joshua Peacock, has been charged by the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s office for allegedly shooting a man in the chest at Hickory Village Apartments on November 27. The charge is one count of battery by means of a deadly weapon, a level five felony.
The incident began with a complaint of a verbal disturbance that escalated into a physical altercation, according to a probable cause affidavit. When officers arrived at the scene, Peacock was found sitting behind the door, blocking officers with a handgun. The police managed to enter the apartment and found the victim, Jeffrey Snyder, with gunshot wounds to his front torso and back.
Snyder, who was hospitalized and listed in stable condition, told a detective that he and Peacock, who were close friends, had been drinking and got into a heated argument. Snyder said he was trying to calm Peacock down when the shooting occurred.
During the investigation, it was noted that Snyder had mentioned Peacock pointing a gun at him in a 911 call before the shooting took place. Additionally, Peacock reportedly inquired about self-defense and defense of others while being medically cleared at the hospital before being taken to jail.
Peacock’s arraignment is scheduled for December 2. For more information on this incident, you can email Tribune staff writer Camille Sarabia at csarabia@gannett.com.
