Brett Goldstein Confirms Ted Lasso Inspiration from The Wizard of Oz
seasons of the series are currently streaming on Apple TV+.
NerdBot is absolutely buzzing about the Emmy-winning show “Ted Lasso” and its connection to “The Wizard of Oz.” Brett Goldstein, a writer and star of the series, has confirmed that the classic L. Frank Baum tale served as inspiration for the show. Goldstein spilled the beans, saying, “Oh yeah, there’s loads and loads of The Wizard of Oz in Ted Lasso.” The nods are everywhere, from a pinball machine reminding us “Ted has to go home” to the parallels between Richmond F.C. and Dorothy’s famous phrase “There’s no place like home.”
Since its debut in 2020, fans have been pointing out clues like the pinball machine and Roy Kent’s yellow brick road-esque shirt. Goldstein even mentioned that each “Ted Lasso” character is based on a character from “The Wizard of Oz.” Roy Kent is the Tin Man, Ted is Dorothy, Rebecca is the Lion, and Jamie is the Scarecrow. Goldstein cheekily admitted, “I’m sure this is going to cause a lot of trouble.”
As of 2023, “Ted Lasso” wrapped up its third and final season, leaving fans wondering if there’s more in store. Jason Sudeikis, who portrays Ted, hinted that there might be future stories focusing on Rebecca, Jamie, Roy, and other characters from Richmond F.C. post-Ted’s departure. However, no fourth season or spin-off has been confirmed as of now. But hey, all three seasons are currently available for streaming on Apple TV+, so we can always revisit our favorite moments while we wait for more news. Enjoy watching “Ted Lasso” and keep those fan theories coming!
