Disney has chosen Karl Holmes, formerly the finance chief for Sky in the UK and Ireland, to lead Disney+ in the EMEA region. Holmes will transition to his new role in January as the senior vice-president and general manager for Disney+ in the territory. He takes over from Luke Bradley-Jones, who left earlier this year to join The Economist.

Based in London, Holmes will be in charge of Disney+ operations across EMEA and will lead the regional team. Reporting to Jan Koeppen, president of The Walt Disney Company EMEA, and Joe Earley, president of direct-to-consumer at Disney Entertainment, he brings with him over 15 years of experience in the media industry. Holmes has previously held roles such as chief financial officer at 21st Century Fox and served on the board of Tata Sky.

Most recently, Holmes spent ten years at Sky in various roles, including CFO of UK&I, chief operating officer of Europe, and chief consumer revenue officer UK. He most recently served as the CFO of UK&I and as the group’s chief data officer. Koeppen expressed confidence in Holmes, citing his success in consumer-facing businesses and expressing optimism for the team under his leadership.
