The Beatles’ Arrival in America Comes to Disney+ Thanksgiving Weekend

The upcoming Disney+ film, Beatles ’64, delves into the behind-the-scenes footage captured by filmmakers David and Albert Maysles during The Beatles’ first trip to the United States. This footage was originally featured in the 1964 TV documentary, “What’s Happening! The Beatles in the USA,” and is now being showcased for the first time.

Director David Tedeschi shared that the film captures the band in a unique light, highlighting their sense of freedom and joy during this momentous trip. In Beatles ’64, Tedeschi and Martin Scorsese explore each band member’s musical breakthrough, incorporating new interviews as well as archival footage. The documentary also features interviews with fans whose lives were forever changed by The Beatles’ music, shedding light on the lasting cultural impact of the band.

The restored footage in stunning 4K quality showcases The Beatles’ skyrocketing success on the charts, the frenzy of their adoring fans, and their groundbreaking appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1964, which was watched by a record-breaking 73 million viewers.

Not only does Beatles ’64 offer a nostalgic look back, but it also includes new interviews with Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr. Scorsese even takes viewers on a tour of Ringo’s impeccably preserved wardrobe, showcasing iconic pieces like his “Sgt. Pepper’s” uniform.
