Tabby McTat Wins Big at International Emmys – Kidscreen

The 2024 International Emmy Awards took place in New York last night, celebrating outstanding work in kids entertainment from around the world. Magic Light Pictures’ holiday special, Tabby McTat, won the Best Kids Animation award. This heartwarming story about a singing cat premiered on BBC One/BBC iPlayer last December and captivated 8.6 million viewers in the UK.
Magic Light Pictures has a history of success in this category, with previous wins for Room on the Broom, Revolting Rhymes, Zog, and The Smeds and the Smoos. In fact, Tabby McTat has also been nominated for the 2025 Kidscreen Awards in the preschool programming category.
In the Best Kids Factual category, The Secret Life of Your Mind (La Vida Secreta de tu Mente) from Mexico’s Pictoline and Warner Bros. Discovery took home the Emmy. This 2D-animated miniseries explores the mysteries of the human brain and premiered on HBO Max LatAm in November 2023.
Denmark’s Apple Tree Productions clinched the Kids Live-Action award with One of the Boys (En af Drengene). This coming-of-age series follows a socially awkward boy who attends a camp to prove his masculinity, only to discover unexpected feelings for another male camper. A touching and relatable story for young audiences.
