Disney+ and HBO Max Holiday Discounts Following Summer Price Hikes
Black Friday isn’t just about scoring deals on clothes and electronics. Streaming services are also offering discounts, which comes as a welcome relief for customers facing recent subscription price hikes. Last year, Black Friday deals were a hit, with 6.9 million sign-ups to promotions in 2023, an 82% increase from the previous year, according to Antenna.
This year, the deals range from a few months to a whole year. Short-term discounts might appeal to the growing number of stream hoppers, who sign up for a service to binge-watch a show and then move on to the next. A Black Friday deal that lasts a couple of months makes this cycle more enticing.
Disney, after raising prices by up to 25% in October, is offering two Black Friday deals until Dec. 2. Hulu’s ad-supported version is available for just 99 cents a month for a year, down from the regular price of $9.99. There’s also an ad-supported bundle with Disney+ for $2.99 a month, instead of $10.99. Additionally, some Hulu subscribers can get Starz for only 99 cents a month, instead of $10.99.
Warner Bros. Discovery Inc. has a 70% discount on its Max streaming service, which includes popular shows like House of the Dragon and The Penguin. You can snag the ad-supported tier for just $2.99 a month for six months, down from $9.99. And don’t worry, the deal lasts through Dec. 2.
Peacock, from NBCUniversal, is offering two Black Friday deals until Dec. 2 as well. The monthly ad-supported plan is just $1.99 for six months instead of the usual $7.99, while the annual subscription is $19.99 instead of $79.99.
For Paramount+, new subscribers can get either the Essential or Premium options for $2.99 a month for the first two months, until Dec. 4. The Premium tier includes Showtime content and live local CBS television. Last year, Paramount’s Black Friday offer included the Essential plan for $1.99 a month for three months or Paramount+ with Showtime for $3.99 a month for three months.
With rising prices and increased competition in the streaming market, these Black Friday promotions are a great way for consumers to sample services at a lower cost. It’s a win-win situation for everyone looking to catch up on their favorite shows or discover new ones.
