Warner Bros Discovery Hires Showmax Executive as Nordics Content Chief
Warner Bros Discovery is upping its game in the Nordics with a new content chief, Allan Sperling. Formerly with MultiChoice and Viacom, Sperling will step into the role of Group Vice President, Programming, Networks, and Streaming for the Nordic region starting December 2. He’ll be based in Stockholm from January onwards, overseeing program planning and operations across WBD Nordics’ portfolios in Norway, Sweden, Denmark, and Finland.
With Sperling at the helm, Warner Bros Discovery seems poised for a return to scripted originals in the region. Sperling will be focusing on developing local Nordic productions for the streamer Max and curating content tailored to local audiences. This shift signals a significant move for WBD, as they had previously veered away from scripted originals in 2022 during a restructuring phase that phased out HBO Max originals. Although WBD Nordics had started dabbling in unscripted content last year, hiring Sperling seems to open the door to a resurgence of scripted originals for the region.
Exciting times are ahead for Warner Bros Discovery in the Nordics, and we can’t wait to see the new content that will come out of this strategic move.
